Songwriting Contest! Make a Difference - Win $100!

MAKE A DIFFERENCE- WIN $100!
Announcing a Musicians On A Mission Songwriting Contest

Write a song about a social problem, issue or community need, and you could win a $100.00 for yourself and another $100.00 for a charity of your choice.  Musicians On A Mission (MOAM) is sponsoring another songwriting contest with the goal of raising awareness and attracting attention to an issue that is near and dear to your heart.  It may be a social injustice, an unmet need, a neglected population or anything that moves you.  Submitted music must be completely original and previously unpublished.
Our first songwriting contest was held in 2012.  The winner, Joe Whyte, was announced at our first CD Release Celebration in November of that year. Joe played his winning song, Off to War, and generously donated his winnings back to MOAM.
To enter, simply submit your original song,  either in video or MP3 format to musiciansonamission@gmail.com by midnight on October 1, 2015.  Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered for this contest.  Songs will be judged not only on the quality of the music and lyrics, but also on the potential to inspire action and /or create change.  Songwriters should specify the issue or cause they are writing about, and include a copy of the lyrics.
Entrance to the contest is free to members of Musicians On A Mission.  For non-members, a $20.00 fee will be charged, which will entitle the entrant to a one-year membership in Musicians On A Mission.  If you are not a member, you must fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee prior to submitting your song.  MOAM board members and their families are not eligible to participate.

The winner will be announced at MOAM’s CD Release and 5th Anniversary Celebration on November 22, 2015, and will receive $100 as well as a $100 donation to a charity of their choice.  The winner will be interviewed by Jeff Raspe on 90.5, WBJB and will be invited to be included on MOAM’s next compilation CD. The winner and two runners up will also be invited to play on MOAM’s Rock the River stage at Riverfest in 2016.  Musicians On A Mission reserves the right to utilize all songs submitted for promotional purposes and to raise awareness of the issue highlighted in the song.  Please see official rules below:

SONGWRITING CONTEST: Rules

Each song submitted must be the contestant’s original work, and must be previously unpublished.  Songs may have multiple co-writers, but must be submitted under only one name.  Prize will be awarded jointly to all authors of any song; division of prizes is the responsibility of winners.  Each contestant may submit only one song.  Musicians On A Mission board members or family of MOAM board members are not eligible to participate.
Entrance fee is non-refundable, and is applied toward a one-year membership in Musicians on a Mission.  A Musicians On A Mission membership card will be mailed to non-member applicants upon receipt of membership application.  Songs must be submitted either in video or MP3 format to musiciansonamission@gmail.com by midnight on August 1, 2015.  Submissions will not be considered until membership application is received.  Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered for this contest. Musicians on a Mission is not responsible for late entries or faulty file uploads.

Winners will be chosen by a special panel comprised of MOAM board members.  Songs will be judged not only on quality of lyrics and music, but also on originality and the potential to inspire action and/or create change. The quality of production will not be considered.  Applicants should specify the issue or cause they are writing about, and include a copy of the lyrics.

Winner will receive a check for $100.00 and an additional check for $100.00 to be given to the charity of their choice, and will be invited to be interviewed by Jeff Raspe on 90.5 WBJB as well as to be included on MOAM’s next compilation CD. Winner and runners up will be invited to perform on MOAM’s Rock the River Stage at Riverfest in 2016.

Entry constitutes permission to use winner’s name and photograph for publicity purposes without additional compensation.  Musicians On A Mission reserves the right to utilize all submitted songs for promotional purposes and to raise awareness of the issue highlighted in the song.

Winner will be announced at MOAM’s CD Release and 5th Anniversary Celebration on November 22, 2015.  Winner will be notified by phone or email by October 30, 2015.  Void where prohibited.  All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

MOAM Success Story: Michaela McClain

Last year, Michaela McClain joined the lineup of the MOAM stage at Riverfest in Red Bank, NJ. She and her band had a friendly conversation with the people who helped them load in their gear, played a strong set, and were ready to call it a day when they received an unexpected offer: a spot on the mainstage, filling in for a band that wasn’t able to make it. Michaela says that performance was the biggest stage and audience she and her band had ever experienced.

That set led to a spot later that year at the Somerville Street Fair, and now Michaela and her band will return to River Fest in 2014 as part of the official mainstage lineup.
Riverfest 2013 was Michaela’s first MOAM show. She calls it a “lovely experience” that included a “lovely crowd,” and “really nice musicians.” She expressed appreciation that last year, MOAM Co-Founder and Board Member Jenny Woods and MOAM member extraordinaire Todd Goldin followed her band to the mainstage to support their set.

This year, you can catch Michaela and her band at Riverfest on Friday, May 30th at 6pm.

She can also be seen twice in Montclair, NJ on 5/31, playing at Just Jake’s at 3pm and on the outside stage at the Tierney’s Music Festival at 7pm – and at Café Wha? in NYC on 6/20 at 7:30pm.

Congratulations, Michaela!

And #2: The brand-new MOAM website is now live! All MOAM members should have received an email with info and instructions.

You are all listed in our Member Directory, which means you will be able to log into the site, manage your own profile and post the info you want others to have about you and your music, venue, business, etc.

You'll also have access to the Members Only section of the site, where you can receive goodies like codes for discounts available only to MOAM members, as well as access to the Open Forum Message Board, "Musician's Cafe,"where you can buy or sell instruments, search for co-writers or band members, and generally share anything you want with the local music community.

One more thing....our new website is also a membership management program, which sends out automatic letters for renewals, reminders, and all kinds of things (we’re not even sure what all of them are yet). So please be patient while we work out all the bugs. If you get an email that you think is a mistake or does not apply to you, either ignore it or let us know, and we’ll see if we can figure it out :)

Thanks for your membership and support. We look forward to continuing to enhance benefits for all our members!!
